I relayed the situation about Noon today. Sent an email to a full team; contacted the QA manager on IM so that he'd know what was going on. I've no response yet to the email, which makes sense because this is a Sunday.
I am sure we'll know more tomorrow and when we have information about this, I'll pass it along.

Oh so we should let all that favor go to waste? The favor is basically a reward for maxing titles, why should we not get what we earned?
I can understand if we can't get it back because it's not possible. But if we can get it back, we should.

I think the QQing in this thread is mainly about the fact that
a) if it was a technical bug, A.net didn't really plan for these events accordingly. Even if they didn't forsee all this favor coming, once the weekend hit and they saw the favor climbing so high so quickly, they had more then enough time to correct the code to prevent an overflow problem. As someone else said, it literally only takes a couple of seconds to change how the favor is stored. Basically its a sloppy mistake.
b) if it wasn't a bug and was intentionally done... that's just a stupid thing to do on A.net's part.

a) yes because anet staff dont have the weekends free and they stay 24/7 there ready to work at the whim of the players.
b) i dont really think it was intentional, or at least not expected, wait till Gaile gets us more info.

they should make it how it used to be when you had to fight and if your country won you'd keep that lead. made it seem cool to root for your country to excel in pvp play

No. They shouldn't do either.

I doubt anyone will care too much as long as ANET restores the lost favor before we lose favor again. And two weeks should be plenty of time to come up with some way of doing so. If all else fails they can just make favor permanent*.
But we should make our feelings on matters like this known as soon as possible to give ANET more time to deal with things
*If it wasn't for this bug I would expect us to get permanent favor under this system anyway. Consider:
- For a few weeks before the GW:EN release the favor was constant and favor remaining was increasing. Then GW:EN came out and distracted everyone from the favor titles.
- It only takes 20*24*365 = 175'200 titles per year for constant favor (175'680 in a leap year)
- Before GW:EN went on sale ANET announced 4 million copies sold. Assuming that all were part of merged accounts this still comes to >1.3 million accounts. This is higher when you consider that there are some people who didn't merge accounts.
- Therefore we need at most 0.13 titles earned per account per year for constant favor. Meaning that even if more than 85% of the accounts were inactive we still only need 1 title per person per year.

Except for the minor fact that the people we were cheering on didn't care about favor. Or if you were in one of those regions (like taiwan) which didn't win favor often because they simply don't have enough good players.

This does not take into account the favor resetting to zero after every major game build.

I have never heard of that happening before. Nor is it listed on either wiki.
And when GW:EN came out I remember that the favor didn't reset with its update.
So why do you think it does reset with each build ?

Imagine being the person who earned the title that triggered the reset.

I helped add to the disappearing minutes. At first I didn't feel upset because there were so many minutes, but now after thinking about all the work I put into getting the title (even on double weekend) it seems like such a waste and I wish my 3 minutes were still there for everyone.

Some bug lol.
My prediction for now....
Gaile will come back with some bug report and maybe some numbers and a bit of an apology but..... it wont be re-added.
(Apology may include promise of a favor free weekend or something tho)

The fact it gets reset every update anyways means we're probably already over the amount of favor we'll be able to use.

I'm curious as to how many people that are complaining here actually use the favor.
